Vol. 91 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Sale of Drimnagh Houses.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health whether he is aware that the provisions of the Small Dwellings Acquisition Act are being set aside in the Drimnagh area; that the occupiers of houses in arrears with their payments to the Corporation under the Small Dwellings Acquisition Act are being induced to sell their interest in their houses to the newly-formed Byrne Estates, Limited, the promoters of which are Associated Properties, Limited, the original owners of these houses, and that unless steps are taken to put an end to this scheme all the poorer people in the district will be deprived of their property; whether, in the circumstances, he is prepared to consult with the corporation with a view to devising ways and means of meeting the temporary difficulties of people in arrears with their payments.

The repayment of advances under the Small Dwellings Acts in the Drimnagh area is a matter for arrangement between the Dublin Corporation and the tenant purchasers. I understand the advances are repayable monthly by agreement with the borrowers and so far as my Department is concerned there has been no variation in the terms on which the advances were made by the corporation. It has been ascertained that the total number of advances made under the Acts in this area is 395, and that only one tenant purchaser is in arrears, and that the total amount of arrears is under £5.
