Vol. 91 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Division of Tipperary Lands.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is prepared to make available for division amongst the uneconomic holders and landless men of the district the lands of Miss J.H. Wilson, Ballyneety, Ardfinnan, Cahir, County Tipperary, for which there is a very considerable local demand.

The Land Commission are unable to identify the lands in question from the particulars furnished. According to the General Valuation records, there is no person named Wilson rated as occupier of lands in the townland of Ballyneety, County Tipperary.

I should like to point out to the Minister that Miss Wilson is living in Ardfinnan, and within the last three weeks she put up for auction 60 acres of this estate. I am sure the Minister is aware of the conditions of the workers in Ardfinnan. There is one of the leading woollen mills in the South of Ireland in Ardfinnan and a number of workers, and those workers are looking for land which they could cultivate in order to produce food for themselves and their families. Miss Wilson put up this estate, 60 acres of it, but there were no bidders at the auction. I have been informed by the workers of Ardrinnan that she is going to divide the estate and to break it up into 40-acre holdings. Is the Minister aware of that?

The Deputy asked about the lands of Miss J.H. Wilson, Ballyneety, Ardfinnan. The Land Commission are unable to identify the lands in question. According to our information, there is no person named Wilson living in the townland.

Will the Minister make further inquiries?

Certainly.
