Vol. 91 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Flooding in County Galway.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he is aware that the Liscananaun and Waterdale district of Claregalway is subject to serious flooding over several months each year, thereby preventing the full utilisation of the land; and if he can state when this position (reference A.2086) is likely to be dealt with.

I had already received representations regarding flooding in the district referred to by the Deputy. The Rivers Cregg and Waterdale, to which the flooding is attributed, form part of the Loughs Corrib, Mask and Carra drainage district, the maintenance of which is the responsibility of local trustees. It is not the practice to make grants from the Employment and Emergency Schemes Vote for drainage works in such circumstances.
