Vol. 91 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Wood-Soled Boots for Farm Workers.

asked the Minister for Supplies whether, owing to the scarcity of kip leather, nailed boots and rubber Wellington boots, he will state what arrangements are in existence for the supply, for land and outdoor workers, of wooden-soled boots, which are the only substitute.

To encourage the production of wooden-soled footwear, arrangements have been made to reserve, as far as may be necessary, for use in this type of footwear, all future supplies of screwing wire, which is the only grindery suitable for its production. Steps have also been taken to ensure that adequate supplies of the necessary wooden soles will be available. The bulk of the wooden-soled footwear which will be produced will be of the heavy type suitable for land and outdoor workers.
