Vol. 92 No. 8

Private Deputies' Business. - Private Deputies' Motions—Time Limit.

I move:—

That notwithstanding anything to the contrary contained in Standing Order 83 (time limit to debate on Private Members' motions), the time allowed for the debate on the motion made by Deputy Donnellan on 15th December shall not exceed a period of four hours in the aggregate.

According to Standing Order 83 of the House the debate on Private Deputies' motions is permissible only for three hours. That three hours will come to an end at 8.10 and I move the motion in order that the debate may continue until 9 p.m. if necessary, to give an opportunity to members on the Front Bench of this side of the House to speak.

The Taoiseach is to intervene?

I take it there will be a reasonable time allowed to the proposer to reply.

Motion put and agreed to.
