asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state in respect of the last year for which the information is available (a) the total number of (1) contributory and (2) non-contributory pensions paid under the Widows' and Orphans' Pensions Acts and (3) the number of beneficiaries in each case; (b) the number of pensions paid under each rate of benefit of 1/- per week and over distinguishing between contributory and non-contributory pensions; (c) the number of such beneficiaries who received food vouchers and the total cost of such vouchers, and (d) the total sum paid in pensions in the case of (1) contributory and (2) non-contributory beneficiaries.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Widows' and Orphans' Pensions.
Figures as to the number of pensions paid in any year are not available, but figures are available showing the number of persons in respect of whom pensions were payable as at the last day of each month. The following figures relate to the financial year to 31st March, 1943:—
(a) (1) Contributory and (2) non-contributory pensions payable were 8,031 and 27,711 respectively. (3) The average monthly number of beneficiaries in each case was 17,084 and 41,350 respectively.
(b) A statement showing the average number of pensions payable at the various rates will be circulated with the Official Report.
(c) The average monthly number of beneficiaries in respect of whom food voucher certificates were issued was 23,227. Separate figures as to the numbers of (1) contributory and (2) non-contributory beneficiaries in receipt of food vouchers are not available. The inquiry as to the cost of such vouchers should be addressed to the Department of Industry and Commerce by which the food voucher scheme is administered.
(d) The expenditure on widows' and orphans' pensions in the financial year ended the 31st March, 1943, was—
