Vol. 92 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Dublin Sewerage Scheme.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he has received from the commissioner administering the affairs of the Dublin County Council the scheme for the provision of water and sewerage arrangements in Tallaght, County Dublin, prepared by the officials of the county council; and, if so, whether he will state the reason for the delay in giving his sanction for its execution; whether he is aware that the village of Tallaght is in a very neglected and dangerous state because of the absence of water and sewerage, and whether, if the commissioner has not submitted for approval the scheme prepared some years ago, he will ascertain the reason for the delay in doing so.

The Deputy is misinformed regarding the preparation of water and sewerage schemes for Tallaght. The position is that in 1934, the engineers of the former Dublin Board of Public Health reported to the board as to the possibility of obtaining water in the vicinity of Tallaght. The board decided in 1935 to await the completion of the Liffey scheme before taking further action. No sewerage scheme was prepared by the former board. The questions as to sanction and delay do not therefore arise. I am aware that it is desirable to provide Tallaght with both water and sewerage, and that the county commissioner has had the position under consideration and proposes to carry out water and sewerage works as soon as circumstances permit.
