Vol. 92 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Acquisition of Mayo Lands.

asked the Minister for Lands when he will acquire and make final settlement of the townland of Tooreen, Electoral Division of Portroyal, County Mayo.

The Land Commission are not yet in a position to state when the rearrangement of the townland of Tooreen will be completed. This is an exceptionally complicated case, in volving various interests and titles, and the Land Commission operations are at present hampered by lack of staff.

Is the Minister aware that the conditions under which these people are living are most insanitary and that it is only the hand of God which has averted an outbreak of fever in this village, which is packed with small houses? There are 23 houses on a total arable area of 52 Irish acres, and I ask the Minister to give his immediate attention to the matter.

I am aware of the very difficult conditions on this estate, and I think I can promise the Deputy that the matter will be dealt with as quickly as possible.
