Written Answers. - Milk and Butter Statistics.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state in respect of each of the years 1933 to 1943, inclusive, (a) the average price paid for milk supplied to the creameries; (b) the average price at which creamery butter was sold wholesale on the home market; (c) the average price per cwt. realised by the creameries for butter sold on the export market; (d) the sum per cwt. levied on butter sold on the home market and the total sum so levied; (e) the sum per cwt. paid by way of bounty on butter exported and the total sum so paid; (f) the net cost to the Exchequer of such bounties, and (g) the gross amount per cwt. realised by the creameries in respect of their total production of butter.

(b) The prices given are the average delivered prices at which the butter was sold on the export market after deduction of British import duty.

(c) Following the outbreak of war prices varied considerably in Great Britain although remaining stable in Northern Ireland. As from November, 1939, the price for creamery butter delivered to the Ministry of Food in Great Britain and Northern Ireland was stabilised at 145/- per cwt.
