Vol. 92 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Manufacture of Cycle Tyres.

asked the Minister for Supplies if he is aware that quantities of Dunlop "Champion" cycle tyres and tubes, stamped "Made in Eire" are at present being sold retail in Great Britain at 6/6 and 2/6 respectively, and if he can state when these articles were manufactured here and when they were exported.

An arrangement has been made under which supplies of rubber and other raw materials are obtained for the production of tyres and tubes by the Irish Dunlop Company Limited. This arrangement provides that licences for the export of tyres and tubes will be granted. It is as a result of this arrangement that a restricted supply of these goods sufficient to meet the minimum needs of this country is available. Export licences have been granted during the past year under the arrangement, but I am not aware of the prices at which cycle tyres and tubes so exported are being retailed in Great Britain.
