Vol. 92 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Generation of Electricity.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether, having regard to the statement made by An Taoiseach before the Institute of Civil Engineers, on the 16th February, about the uses of tides as a source of electric power he will now reconsider the report received by his Department in September, 1942, of an eminent County Dublin engineer, with reference to this subject, and if he will make a statement on it.

The proposals submitted to my Department regarding the use of tidal power for the generation of electricity have been carefully examined by the Electricity Supply Board by whom I am advised that, while such a scheme would be technically feasible, the capital cost involved would be so high in relation to other means of generation as to render it uneconomic.
