Vol. 92 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Unemployment Assistance.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he can give approximate figures for the amount paid in unemployment assistance to single men in any average month in 1939, 1940, 1941, 1942, and 1943.

The estimated average monthly payments in unemployment assistance to single men in 1941, 1942 and 1943 were, respectively, £22,900, £23,700, and £22,200. These figures should be regarded as rough approximations. It is not possible to make estimates for the years 1939 and 1940.

I fully appreciate that they are the merest approximation. Would it be correct to multiply those figures by 12 for the purpose of arriving at the annual figures?

Yes, that would be approximately correct.
