Vol. 92 No. 16

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Radio Advisory Council.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will state the qualifications which governed the selection of members to the Radio Advisory Council; what body, or bodies, he consulted prior to making these appointments; what remuneration, if any, will be paid to the members; also, what is the period for which they hold office.

In setting up the Broadcasting Advisory Committee I looked for the services of persons interested in national culture, music, drama. literature, the Irish language, etc., whose advice in relation to programmes and programme policy would be valuable and who were not likely to have private interests which might prejudice the advice offered and militate against the work of the committee. No remuneration is paid except the travelling expenses usually allowed to country members of such committees. Appointment is for a period of two years.
