Vol. 92 No. 16

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Daily Postal Deliveries in Rural Areas.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he is aware that in some rural areas daily postal deliveries do not exist, and if, in view of this serious situation, he will consider taking steps to have daily postal deliveries in all rural areas.

I am aware that in some rural areas there is not a daily postal delivery. A daily delivery is given on all posts where the traffic warrants it. Even where the traffic does not warrant it a daily delivery is given where there is a factory, creamery or business of any magnitude involved.

In present circumstances, the con siderable additional expenditure which the provision of a daily delivery on all rural posts would entail would not be justified and accordingly I regret that I cannot favourably consider such a proposal.
