Vol. 92 No. 17

Ceisteanna.—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Mayo Wheat and Flour Position.

asked the Minister for Supplies if he can state (1) the approximate tonnage of first grade wheat grown in County Mayo last year, and (2) the approximate amount of flour which is required to meet the annual needs of the County of Mayo.

On the basis of the acreage sown in County Mayo last year it is estimated that approximately 6,000 tons of wheat were produced. It is not possible to state the approximate quantity of first grade wheat in this figure.

Taking the average annual consumption of flour per head of the population for the country as a whole the amount of flour required to meet the annual needs of County Mayo is estimated at not less than 19,000 tons.
