Vol. 92 No. 17

Ceisteanna.—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cork Lorries.

asked the Minister for Supplies if he is aware that since the Great Southern Railway monopoly of road transport in the County Kerry became effective lorries from the Cork area have been engaged in the collection and transport of eggs in Kerry, to the detriment of the business of the egg-exporting concerns in that county (Tralee especially) and the livelihood of their employees; and, if so, whether he will state what action he is prepared to take in the matter.

I would refer the Deputy to the previous replies given by me with regard to the operation of the reorganised transport scheme in certain areas. A monopoly of road transport in the County of Kerry has not been granted to a particular class of vehicle operator.

Vehicle owners resident outside controlled areas are not permitted to use their vehicles within controlled areas unless they are in a category still allowed to operate in these areas.

If the Deputy will furnish particulars of the cases he has in mind, appropriate action will be taken.
