Vol. 92 No. 17

Ceisteanna.—Questions. Oral Answers. - Lime Supplies.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he is aware that supplies of lime which are available under the lime scheme and which are urgently required for agricultural purposes cannot be procured because of the lack of transport; and if he has made any arrangements with the Minister for Supplies for the purpose of ensuring that applications for petrol for this purpose will be specially considered; and, if not, if he intends to do so.

There has been no change in the position as shown in my reply to the Deputy's similar question on the subject on the 25th November, 1943.

Is the Minister not interested in getting lime distributed all over the country?

Does he not realise that in some districts farmers are experiencing difficulty in getting transport for the purpose, and that it cannot be got at all in some places?

The Deputy must be aware that general hauliers receive a basic allowance for the transport of lime and that, where a good case is made, they get a supplementary allowance. The Minister for Supplies cannot do any more than that.
