Vol. 92 No. 17

Ceisteanna.—Questions. Oral Answers. - A Leix Estate.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware of the protests being made by the local smallholders and landless men who were deprived of securing portions of the Kenny Estate situated at Rossdarrig, Rathdowney, County Leix, as a result of the action of the Land Commission in allowing outsiders to apply for holdings there on; and whether he proposes to have this local grievance investigated and remedied immediately.

I am not aware of any grievance which people residing in the vicinity of the Kenny Estate can properly have in regard to the letting of the lands of Rossdarragh. Pending division by the Land Commission the lands are let for grazing and conacre. Lettings have been made by public auction in the usual way, and it is open for local small-holders and landless men to bid. There has been no departure in this case from the normal practice of the Land Commission.
