Vol. 93 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Discharge from Army.

asked the Minister for Defence if he is aware that members of the Army, when being discharged on grounds of ill-health, are required to sign a declaration that they shall not make any claim against the Army authorities or the Government for compensation in respect of any incapacitation arising from their illness, and that members of the Army who have declined to sign this declaration have been refused discharge from the Army; and, if so, whether he is prepared to have this practice discontinued.

No soldier of the Forces is required to make or sign any declaration of the nature mentioned by the Deputy, and the question of refusing to discharge a soldier who declines to make or sign such a declaration does not, therefore, arise.

Inasmuch as this has been stated before, if a soldier leaving the Army is required to sign any declaration, is the Minister prepared to put a copy of that declaration on the Table of the House?

I can do that, yes.
