Vol. 93 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Allocation of Turbary.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware that the turbary on the Ventry Estate in Cordal East and in Cordal West, Castleisland, has been lockspitted for the past 15 years, and if he will send an inspector to show each tenant his own particular portion, as the tenants at present are without turf banks.

Mr. Boland

The Land Commission have in course of preparation a scheme of regulations pursuant to Section 21, Irish Land Act, 1903, and Section 42, Land Act, 1923, in respect of surplus turbary on holdings at Cordal East and West on the Ventry Estate, Record No. E.C. 8616. When the scheme is in operation the turbary plots will be lockspitted and pointed out to the allottees. The Land Commission have no information regarding the lock-spitting stated to have been carried out about 15 years ago. It is understood that, about the year 1913, a scheme for the division of this turbary was prepared by the former landlord of the estate, but that the scheme proved ineffective.
