Vol. 93 No. 3

Ceisteanna.—Questions. Oral Answers. - The Cavan Orphanage Inquiry.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state what steps have been taken towards implementing the recommendations of the tribunal of inquiry into the fire at Saint Joseph's Orphanage, Cavan.

An interdepartmental committee has been established to consider the recommendations contained in Sections 36 to 42 of the report of the Cavan Fire Tribunal. I have directed this committee to give their first consideration to the recommendations contained in Section 36 in regard to a fire survey of premises wholly or partly State-aided or in respect of which a Department of State has any responsibility or for which a Department of State has power to make rules or regulations in respect of the maintenance of inmates. I am informed that the committee expect to submit an interim report on this matter at an early date.
