Vol. 93 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Cork Vacancies.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state the reason for the delay in filling the vacancy for county solicitor in Cork County, and when the post will be filled.

The delay in filling the vacancy has been primarily due to the local authority, who were asked to define the duties which it was intended should be discharged for the salary proposed by the council for the position. This information, which was asked for in 1940, was not supplied until May, 1943. The council did not apparently desire to proceed with the filling of the position pending the introduction of county management. The conditions of appointment have been settled and the statutory request was sent by the local authority to the Local Appointments Commission in December last. I understand the position will be advertised shortly.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he is now in a position to state when the vacancy for county surveyor (or the vacancies for county surveyors) in County Cork, will be filled.

The Cork County Manager submitted proposals on the 3rd instant for the reorganisation of the county engineering services. They are at present under consideration and a decision thereon will be given soon.
