Vol. 93 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Wheat Haulage Prosecutions.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will state for each of the years 1942, 1943 and 1944 to date, and in respect of haulage of wheat in breach of the Road Transport Act, 1933, (a) the number of prosecutions, (b) the number of convictions in which fines were imposed, (c) the number of convictions in which imprisonment was imposed, and (d) the total amount imposed in fines.

The total figures for the years 1942, 1943 and 1944 to date are as follows:— Number of prosecutions, 44; number of convictions in which fines were imposed, 31; number of convictions in which imprisonment was imposed, nil; total amount imposed in fines, £49 3s.

I regret that I am not at present in a position to give the figures for each year separately, but, if the Deputy requires those figures, I shall obtain them and communicate them to him.
