Vol. 93 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Travel Permits to Great Britain.

asked the Minister for External Affairs if he will state the number of passports or permits issued to persons resident in Éire to travel to Great Britain in 1942, 1943, and the current year to date.

The issue of passports to applicants whose destination was Great Britain was suspended on the 21st January, 1942. During the 20 days from the 1st to the 20th January, 1942, 30 passports were issued to persons for the purpose of travelling to Great Britain.

The appropriate document for persons travelling to Great Britain and the Six Counties is the travel permit. The total number of travel permits issued to persons for the purpose of travelling to Great Britain and the Six Counties was 66,208 in 1942, 61,758 in 1943, and 7,238 in January and February, 1944. Separate figures for the total number of travel permits issued to persons travelling to Great Britain, as distinct from the Six Counties, are not available in respect of the periods indicated by the Deputy.
