Vol. 93 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Local Government Officials' Superannuation.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health whether he is aware of dissatisfaction with the present scheme of superannuation of local government officials under Part IV of the Local Government Act, 1925, and of a general desire that a gratuity should be payable on retirement as is the case in the Civil Service pension scheme, and if he will have regard to this desire in the preparation of the proposed new superannuation measure; also, if he is in a position to give an approximate date by which he hopes to have the Bill introduced.

I informed the Deputy on the 23rd instant that I cannot indicate any particular provisions of the Bill at this stage. On the 22nd ultimo I stated in reply to a question by Deputy Liam Cosgrave that I hoped to be able to introduce the Bill before the end of the calendar year. I have nothing further to add.
