Vol. 93 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Gárda Children's Allowance.

asked the Minister for Justice if he is aware that the allowance to children under 16 years of age, of members of the Gárda Síochána who die from any cause other than non-accidental injury received on duty, is limited to three in number; and if he is prepared to grant an extension of the allowances to all children of the family.

Mr. Boland

I am aware of the limitation referred to in the question. Taken as a whole, however, the benefits to widows and children under the Gárda Pensions Orders are as good as those provided under the Widows' and Orphans' Pensions Act, 1935, and I would not feel justified in asking the Minister for Finance to agree to any further improvement at present.
