Vol. 93 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Price of Files and Rasps.

asked the Minister for Supplies if he is aware that very high prices are charged in many areas for files and rasps to tradesmen whose livelihood depends on such articles; and if he proposes to fix a price on all such files and rasps at an early date so that they may be procured at reasonable costs.

Files and rasps form part of a large variety of tools, the import cost of which has increased considerably, resulting in much higher retail prices. On account of the wide range of articles involved, and the mixed nature of the business of firms retailing such articles, the fixing of prices would be a matter of great practical difficulty. It is not at present proposed to fix such prices. Specific complaints of overcharging for these articles will, however, be investigated.

Is the Minister prepared to consider complaints submitted to his Department?

Certainly.
