Vol. 93 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Hire Purchase Agreements.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he is aware of the hardship caused in many instances by the unfair operation of hire purchase agreements; and if he will indicate when legislation designed to improve the present position will be introduced.

The Report of an InterDepartmental Committee which considered, inter alia, the question of hire purchase is at present under consideration, but I cannot at this stage say if or when legislation on the subject may be introduced.

Arising out of the Minister's reply, will he say whether it is proposed to make the report available?

No. It was an interDepartmental committee, which dealt with a number of matters, and only incidentally with the question of hire purchase. It is not intended to publish the report.
