Vol. 93 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Sale of Irish Cigarettes and Matches.

asked the Minister for Supplies whether he has received any complaints that shopkeepers, though having supplies of Irish manufactured cigarettes and matches, have declined to supply customers with them in an effort to sell stocks of foreign manufactured cigarettes and matches and thus secure the higher profit margin on such imported goods; and, if so, if he will state if he is taking any action in the matter.

I have received only two complaints of the nature referred to, both of which were investigated and related to cigarettes. In one case proceedings were taken in the courts and a fine imposed, and in the other case the question of instituting proceedings is being considered.
