Vol. 93 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Anthracite for Domestic Use.

asked the Minister for Supplies if he can state generally what allocation of anthracite he intends to make available for the coming six months to domestic users, hotels, and others who have anthracite cookers unsuitable for any other type of fuel and who have up to the present been permitted to purchase anthracite sufficient for such cookers.

It is obviously impossible, in the present critical coal position, to give a categorical reply to the Deputy's inquiry. The quantities of anthracite that may be authorised for purchase by owners of these cookers will be announced from month to month, but while every effort will be made to distribute the available supplies as equitably as possible, no assurance can be given that any coal will be available in any particular month for domestic purposes after the needs of industries essential to the life of the community have been met.
