Vol. 93 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Payment of Gárda Síocháná.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will give favourable consideration to a system of weekly payments instead of monthly for members of the Gárda Síochána.

No request that the present arrangement should be changed has been made to me by the Gárda Síochána, either through the ordinary official channel or through the representative bodies.

If I am approached in the matter, I shall consider with an open mind the case put forward. As I mentioned last night, we did pay them twice monthly, but they asked to be put back on the monthly payment.

In view of the interest which Deputy Flanagan is taking in the welfare of the Guards, will the Minister now consider a proposal to cancel the Order having the Guards chasing him around my constituency?

Mr. Boland

The Minister made no such Order. He would not waste his time making such an Order.

Arising out of the Minister's reply, may I say that I put down this Question in the interests of the wives and families of the Guards.
