Vol. 93 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Irish Coal Output.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state the total output of coal from Irish mines in the years 1939, 1940, 1941, 1942, 1943 and 1944 to date, and what percentage, if any, of this coal was used by the Great Southern Railways in 1942-43.

The particulars of production of coal in the State will be found in the Irish Trade Journal and Statistical Bulletin: those for 1939 and 1940 on page 130 of the September, 1941, issue, and those for 1941 and 1942 on page 123 of the September, 1943, issue. It is not in the public interest to give the further information which the Deputy requires.

Can the Parliamentary Secretary give this House no indication as to the amount of Irish-mined coal that is being used by the Great Southern Railways? I think this House is entitled to know what percentage of Irish coal is being used.
