Vol. 93 No. 12

Ceisteanna.—Questions. Oral Answers. - Butter Ration Units.

asked the Minister for Supplies if he will make an order compelling the creameries to supply their butter to grocers in the future in units of 6 ozs. (say, 12 oz. or 18 oz. rolls) as under the present rationing order of 6 oz. per person weekly as it is impossible to distribute equitably this ration from the standard roll of 16 ozs. without causing waste and loss.

Following the introduction of the 6 oz. butter ration, creameries were requested by my Department to facilitate traders, where possible, by making up the roll butter in 12 oz. or 18 oz. units, or alternatively, to supply the butter in bulk quantities. It may not be practicable for some creameries to make up the rolls in these units, but traders can always take their supplies in bulk lots. I do not propose to make the Order suggested by the Deputy.
