Vol. 93 No. 12

Ceisteanna.—Questions. Oral Answers. - Mail Services.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will state what is the position regarding the posting of letters to and from Great Britain and abroad as a result of the recent alterations and restrictions of mail services with this country.

Mails for Great Britain are now being despatched each week day by evening service from the North Wall to Holyhead. The latest hour of posting at the General Post Office and College Green for inclusion in the despatch is 5.30 p.m. and, at Pearse Street Sorting Office, 6 p.m.

Inward mails from Great Britain are being received by mail boat at Dun Laoghaire on Monday, Wednesday and Friday evenings, and by cargo boat at North Wall on Sunday evening, and on Wednesday and Friday mornings.

In general, the position is that there are now six Cross-Channel despatches and six Cross-Channel arrivals of mails every week, as against seven prior to the curtailment of the Packet services.
