Vol. 93 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Lorries for Turf Haulage.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware that numbers of the lorries despatched from Dublin to the country for turf haulage are in a very bad state of repair with the result that long delay and disorganisation occur due to breaksdown; and if he will accordingly see that lorries are fully overhauled before they are sent to the turf-producing areas, and thus save valuable time in the country's fuel drive.

I am not aware that any serious difficulties of the kind mentioned by the Deputy have arisen in connection with turf transport. It is in the interests of any lorry owners engaged in this traffic to maintain their vehicles in a state of efficiency, and any general action on the lines suggested by the Deputy would not be practicable.
