Vol. 93 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Appointment of Furniture Clerk.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state the number of applications received for the recently advertised position of furniture clerk in the Office of Public Works; the amount paid in fees by each applicant; the total amount in fees received from all applicants; the number of applicants interviewed; the number not interviewed; the reason why all applicants were not interviewed, and if a refund of fees will be paid to those applicants who were not examined or interviewed; and if he will further state the last date for receiving applications, and the date on which the appointment was made.

The question refers to a post which is being filled through the Civil Service Commission. The figures asked for in the Deputy's question are:— Number of applications received for the post, 34; the amount paid in fees by each applicant, £2; the net total amount in fees received from all applicants, £66 (the application fee was refunded, in accordance with the usual practice, to one applicant who was ineligible, in respect of age, to compete). Pending the results of the written test, which is due to take place on 9th instant, it is not possible to state the number of applicants who will be interviewed. As provided in the regulations, copies of which were supplied to all applicants, all who qualify in the written test will be called for interview. All applicants who prima facie are eligible to compete will be afforded an opportunity of sitting for the written test, and, as I have said, all those who qualify in the test will be called for interview. The question of the refunding of fees in the circumstances envisaged by the Deputy does not, therefore, arise. The latest date for accepting completed application forms was the 18th April, 1944. As is clear from what I have said the appointment has not yet been made.
