Vol. 93 No. 14

Ceisteanna.—Questions. Oral Answers. - Sale of Turf by Measure.

asked the Minister for Supplies if he will consider the sale of turf by measure instead of by weight, as at present in operation, as such a step will encourage the proper harvesting of turf and thereby place this fuel on the market in good condition.

The basis on which the price of turf should be fixed is a matter which has received close consideration in my Department and I am satisfied that in the interests of the consumer the best method is by weight. I cannot accept the inference in the Deputy's question that the system of sale by weight at present in operation reacts detrimentally on the proper harvesting of turf or on its condition when it arrives on the market.
