Vol. 94 No. 2

Ceisteanna.—Questions. Oral Answers. - Poulaphouca Electrical Plant.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce when it is hoped that electricity will be generated at Poulaphouca; the number of units it is hoped will be generated there; and the number it is estimated will be sold to consumers.

Promises of delivery of certain outstanding portions of the mechanical and electrical equipment have recently been received by the board. If these promises are implemented it is hoped to be able to place the Poulaphouca Station temporarily in commission before the end of the year. It is estimated that 30,000,000 units per year can be generated from the Liffey at Poulaphouca and Golden Falls. Subject to normal losses in transmission it is anticipated that the whole effective output of the station will be sold.

Could the Minister state if, at any time since 1941, proposals were submitted to the Electricity Supply Board by a hydro-electrical expert indicating the possibility of an increase in the output from 30,000 to 120,000 kilowatts?

From where?

At Poulaphouca.

There is not the slightest chance of that.

Is the Minister definite about that?

Quite sure.
