Vol. 94 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Transport Facilities for Market Gardeners.

asked the Minister for Supplies if he is aware that a considerable number of farmers in the districts of Rush and Skerries, County Dublin, are at present engaged in supplying the city markets with early potatoes, and that serious inconvenience is being caused by the lack of an adequate supply of petrol in connection with their transport, and, if so, if he will consider granting a temporary allowance of five gallons of petrol for the months of June and July, in order that this work may be satisfactorily carried on.

I am not aware that farmers in the districts of Rush and Skerries are seriously inconvenienced in the delivery of early potatoes to the city markets by the lack of an adequate supply of petrol. These farmers receive allocations of petrol in relation to their needs and having regard to the quantity of petrol available for distribution generally.

Would the Minister consider allowing an extra allocation of petrol to those engaged growing tomatoes and fruit?

That is a separate question.

Would the Minister consider doing so for a couple of months?

That is a separate question.
