Vol. 94 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Cork Coal Mines.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he will state if it is the intention to reopen the coal mines at Dromagh, Banteer, County Cork, and, if so, when it is proposed to do so.

The possibility of reopening the abandoned coal mine at Dromagh has been considered, but there seems to be little likelihood of obtaining any quantity of workable coal within easy access of the existing shafts.

Would the Minister say if it would be possible to make a survey of the district as regards the production of culm, which is very necessary for the people of that locality?

From the surveys already carried out, it would appear that almost the worst place to attempt that, from the point of view of workers and equipment, would be Dromagh. There would appear to be some possibilities in other places, but none there.
