Vol. 94 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Communal Cooking Facilities.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if, in view of the difficulties now facing the citizens regarding fuel supplies and the restrictions on gas and electricity for cooking purposes, he will state what proposals, if any, are being made in the present circumstances to utilise the turf and wood-burning equipment fitted by the Dublin Corporation in the Mansion House and other parts of the city for communal cooking and the supply of hot water, and for the provision of hot meals to school children.

The problem referred to in the question is under constant review. As a result of a very recent examination of the position, I am satisfied that it is not at present necessary to put in operation the measures which have been designed to meet a much more acute situation than now exists. Should the need arise, the Deputy may be certain that appropriate action will be taken in due time.
