Vol. 94 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Wexford Nurses.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he is aware that the County Manager, County Wexford, made an order in the early part of this year fixing the salary, ration allowance and emergency bonus applicable to trained nurses in the county; and, if so, if he is prepared to state when his sanction for the implementation of this order will be issued.

The county manager's proposals with regard to the payment of an emergency bonus to the nursing sisters in the county home and county hospital which were only received towards the end of last month are being sanctioned.

Specific proposals for the payment of an emergency bonus to the nursing and domestic staffs employed at the sanatorium were not received in my Department until the 17th instant. They are at present being considered.

The question of increased remuneration for nurses in the sanatorium is being examined in conjunction with representations which have been submitted by the Irish Nurses' Organisation.

Will this be made retrospective?

I am afraid I cannot answer that question offhand, but I will communicate with the Deputy when a firm decision has been reached.

Will the county manager be held liable for any delay?

I think it will be time enough to discuss that when a firm decision has been reached.
