Vol. 94 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Petrol for Market Gardeners.

asked the Minister for Supplies if he is prepared to consider the granting of permits for petrol supplies in respect of small vans to market gardeners and others engaged in the production of tomatoes, fruit and salad for the months of July, August and September, to enable them to market their produce and make deliveries to seaside resorts and hotels in County Dublin; and, further, if he is prepared to grant a small extra supply of petrol to farmers having lorries engaged in the same business.

I am prepared to consider on their merits, in so far as the petrol supply position permits, applications from persons engaged wholly or mainly in the business of market gardening for permits and petrol allowances for motor vans to deliver seasonal, perishable produce to market. I will also consider applications from farmers having lorries engaged in the production and transport of foodstuffs for small additional supplies of petrol for such seasonal transport.
