Vol. 94 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Discharges from the Army.

asked the Minister for Defence if he is aware that many men serving with the Defence Forces whose time has expired are anxious to obtain their discharge, and if he will state on what conditions discharge may be granted.

I am aware that a number of Army personnel whose terms of service have expired are still retained in service under the terms of Section 7 of the Defence Forces (Temporary Provisions) Act, 1942, which suspends the right of a soldier to be discharged during a period of emergency.

Individual applications for discharge or exemption, as the case may be, are, however, considered on their merits.
