Vol. 94 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Water Supply for Migrants.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will have inquiries made as to the cause of delay in having water supplied on the lands of Mr. Hyland, a migrant from Mayo, now residing on the Flynn estate at Paddinstown, Kilcock, County Meath; and if he is aware that this man has already lost several head of cattle because of lack of water on the farm.

The Land Commission are satisfied that an adequate water supply has been provided for Mr. James Hyland, the migrant in question. No complaint has been received from him as regards actual loss of cattle through lack of water.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware that Luke Gibbons, a migrant from Mayo, now residing on the Malone estate at Newhaggart, Trim, County Meath, was promised by the Land Commission that he would be given a supply of water on his farm; that when he applied for same he was informed he would have to drive his cattle to the public pump on the roadside some distance away; if he is aware that there is no water on this farm, and that this man's live stock is in great danger from disease, and that his losses already are heavy; and whether he will have steps taken to have a supply of water procured on this farm without delay.

An adequate water supply has been provided for Mr. Luke Gibbons, the migrant in question, by means of a pump situated on the roadside opposite his dwellinghouse, and a drain at the end of his holding giving water for stock. The Land Commission are not prepared to grant him any additional facilities.
