Vol. 94 No. 8

Estimates, 1944-45. - Trade Loans (Guarantee) (Amendment) (No. 2) Bill, 1944—Committee and Final Stages.

Bill passed through Committee, reported without amendment, and received for final consideration.
Question proposed: "That the Bill do now pass".

Deputy Mulcahy asked for certain statistical information on the Second Reading, which I promised to give him. Since the inception of this Act in 1924—I am taking the whole period from the enactment of the first Trade Loans (Guarantee) Act to date— guarantees were given in 98 cases, involving 113 separate guarantees. There were 43 firms which received 51 separate guarantees and repaid them in full. In 25 cases, receivers were appointed. On the Second Reading, I said 24, but that was the figure up to 31st March; one additional receiver was appointed since that date. In the remaining cases, involving 60 guarantees, the companies are still operating. The total amount of loans guaranteed up to 31st March was £1,160,440. The total amount of the loans which were repaid in full was £411,271. The total issues from the Central Fund were £390,722, and the amount subsequently recovered and paid into the Central Fund against that expenditure was £77,835.

Question put and agreed to.
