Vol. 94 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Coal for Blacksmiths.

asked the Minister for Supplies if he is aware that, owing to the recent reduction in the amount of coal allowed to blacksmiths, farmers are unable to have their haymaking and harvesting machinery repaired, and if he will consider increasing the allocation during the coming three months.

The quantity of coal which blacksmiths, in common with other users of industrial coal, have been authorised to purchase during the month of June is the maximum that can be allowed in the existing critical coal supply position. I am fully aware of the requirements of blacksmiths and their coal allocation will be increased as soon as the general supply position warrants it.
