Vol. 94 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Pre-Treaty Dáil Officials.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state how many pre-Treaty Dáil officials are still serving in the Civil Service in unestablished minor positions; and whether, in view of these officers' service to the national movement and the disadvantages they are at present under in respect of obtaining promotion from their unestablished minor positions, he will consider having their claims specially considered with a view to granting established status as from the date of their appointment and promotion.

I would refer the Deputy to Section 1 of the Superannuation and Pensions Act, 1923, and Section 4 of the Superannuation Act, 1936. He will observe from these sections that the decisive date in determining the claims to establishment of civil servants of Dáil Eireann is that of the Truce, that is 11th July, 1921. I am not aware that any pre-Truce Dáil civil servant who fulfilled the statutory requirements (including requirements under the Civil Service Regulation Acts, 1924 and 1926) is serving in an unestablished capacity.

If I submit details of two particular cases in which I am interested, will the Minister promise to have them investigated?

If the Deputy submits any facts in his possession relating to this matter, I will certainly consider them.
