asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state what is the nature of the restrictions, and the reasons for such restrictions, on the export of apples to Northern Ireland and Great Britain, and particularly if he will state what the restrictions are on private persons exporting gifts of apples; and if he will consider some relaxation in the regulations relating to exports.

In regard to the first part of the question, I would refer the Deputy to the provisions of the Emergency Powers (Control of Export) (Amendment) (No. 10) Order, 1941, made by the Minister for Supplies on the 1st September, 1941 — Statutory Rules and Orders, 1941, No. 406. Licences are being granted for the export of small quantities of apples as gifts, subject to cognisance of British import restrictions. As regards the export of apples in commercial quantities, I would refer the Deputy to the reply I gave to Deputy Halliden on 18th October.
