Vol. 95 No. 8

Ceisteanna. — Questions. Oral Answers. - Provision of Free Allotments and Seeds.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he is aware of the hardships caused by the discontinuance of free allotments and seeds to plotholders who attain the age of 70 years; and if he will now reconsider his decision in this matter.

I assume that the Deputy's question refers to the statement of the legal position governing the provision of allotments which was set out in reply to a question of the 29th February, 1944. The matter was fully dealt with on that occasion, and it is not proposed to make any change in the existing law governing the matter.

Cannot the Parliamentary Secretary see his way to take into consideration the cases of men who have reached 70 years of age and who are still in possession of plots? Does he not consider it a hardship that they should be deprived of these plots on reaching 70 years?

I am afraid it is not possible at present.
